Talent Search High School and Re-entry to School Component

This component provides services to in-school high school students or individuals interested in returning to high school, attending a GED preparation program or returning to college. Some of the services provided to these individuals are:

  • Tutoring
  • College, Financial Aid and Career Counseling
  • SAT Prep Classes
  • Curriculum Advisement
  • GED Referral or Re-entry to High School or College
  • College Campus Visits
  • College Admissions Applications and Tests Fee Waivers
  • Cultural/Educational Trips
  • Workshops
  • Summer Scholars Program
  • Access to Computers

Talent Search Middle School Component

This component is an After School program that serves seventh and eighth grade students coming from middle schools based in East Harlem, West Harlem and Manhattanville/Hamilton Heights. The programs are conducted four days a week after school at PS 96/Joseph Lanzetta in East Harlem and IS 195/Roberto Clemente in West Harlem/Manhattanville, our primary target schools. Student participants in the program engage in the following activities:

  • Tutoring and Instruction
  • Career and Personal Counseling
  • High School Selection Advisement
  • High School/College Campus Tours
  • Cultural/Educational Trips
  • 'EDUCATS' Incentive Program
  • Workshops
  • Access to Computers
  • Summer Program for Middle School Students

Summer Program for Middle School Students Component

This component is a five-week program that combines engineering principles and use of computers to enrich students learning of Math and English. Students will work individually and as teams with their instructor to learn some elementary concepts of physics as well as strengthen their math skills while enjoying seeing projects come to life utilizing these principles. Students will also develop PhotoEssays using computers and digital cameras and requiring use of their writing skills. The best three will be entered into a national TRIO competition. Students will present their projects at the end of the program. There will also be periodic field trips and some recreational activities incorporated into the program.

Summer Scholars Component

This component is a six-week summer program that engages high school juniors entering 12th grade in the Fall in activities dealing with selecting and applying to college, identifying sources of financial aid, workshops on college awareness issues, college campus trips, and SAT Prep classes. Students participate two evenings a week from 5:30PM - 7:30PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and on Saturdays from 10AM - 2PM

Math/Science Program (Coming Soon)

This component will be a year-round initiative to engage 9th grade students in math/science activities and/or projects. Students will also attend field trips dealing with this subject matter as well as engage with professionals in these fields. This component will primarily be open to students attending the following middle and high schools:

Male Involvement Program (Coming Soon)

This component will engage males attending primarily Norman Thomas High School in workshops, individual and group sessions dealing with issues important to assuring that males succeed in school and making life decisions.

   Educational Opportunity Center Program

This program serves adults who are seeking information and assistance in obtaining a GED or in applying to and attending a postsecondary education institution or program. The services provided to these individuals are:

  • Tutoring in Math and Essay Writing
  • GED Preparation classes
  • College, career and financial aid counseling
  • Workshops
  • College Admissions Exams tutorials
  • ESL tutoring
