David Perez, Project Director

david perez David Perez joined the Educational Opportunity Center in September 2007. As Project Director, David oversees strategic planning, budget, program evaluation, and participant recruitment. David has also served as both Educational Advisor and Assistant Director at the E.O.C. Previously, David worked as a youth educational counsler at a domestic violence shelter, and as a New York City public school teacher. His main areas of expertise include financial aid, college admissions, and post-secondary education transition for adults. Daniel Rodriguez, Assistant Director

david perezDaniel Rodriguez joined the E.O.C. in April 2008. He is an educator who specializes in teaching math. A New York native and veteran teacher, Dan has been working with adult students struggling with math for more than a decade. Previously, he has worked in Queens College, Lehman College, and Monroe College in their Continuing Education Programs. He specializes in building basic math skills and defusing math anxiety. Marlene Flax, Educational Advisor:

Marlene FlaxMarlene Flax joined the E.O.C in January 2009. In advising her clients she urges them to believe that regardless of circumstances, they hold the power to achieve any goal through dedication and positive thought. Prior to joining the E.O.C., Marlene served as a counselor to individuals with substance abuse and family difficulties. In addition, she worked as a Social Security administrator for individuals with mental disabilities. Marlene has an extensive background in advertising and public relations. Estella Harris, G.E.D./Writing Instructor:

Estella Harris joined the E.O.C. in August 2007. An experienced educator, Estella has worked with adult learners as a G.E.D. instructor for nearly 20 years. She especially enjoys working with students who have previously had academic problems, and specializes in teaching essay writing to adults.

 

Manuel Valentin, Math Tutor:

Manuel ValentinManuel Valentin joined the E.O.C. in June 2005. He is a veteran G.E.D. and math educator who has served as both G.E.D. instructor and math tutor at the E.O.C. Manny, as he is known to students and staff, enjoys challenging students to improve their math skills. He specializes in working with students who have had difficulty learning math through traditional teaching methods.
